Tipsy Thursday: Hawaiian Happy Hour



Well congrats, we have made it to Thursday… which is basically the weekend (sort of) and that means it’s time to celebrate after work with a cocktail, and if you don’t work or you have the day off (jealous) then start drinking at lunch, just kidding… not really. Both of the recipes I am sharing today are a little bit more labor intensive, so I recommend storing these and shaking them up for a night of entertaining or a day in the backyard, at the beach or lake. The photo above brings back SO many fun honeymoon memories on the incredible island of Maui, Hawaii. I felt like a total nerd taking photos of our drinks, but they were the first of many delicious cocktails that we tasted (and who doesn’t document a few h-moon moments, you are lying if you didn’t take a couple food, drink and/or solo shot photos). Okay, so we had just arrived at the fabuloso Four Seasons Maui at Grand Wailea, and it was time to relax with a beverage after a very long two days of traveling… (Charleston Wedding Weekend —> mini moon in San Fran —> Hawaii). We checked in around lunch and went straight to the hotel’s ocean/pool restaurant, Ferraro’s Bar e Ristorante. We sat on a terrace with beautiful ocean views and sipped on Maui Mint Mai Tais and Fizzy Vodka Pink Lemonades —… // If you need honeymoon or vacation ideas, this resort comes highly recommended, and at night Ferraro’s turns into one of the best Italian restaurants on the island… by day they serve salads, wood fired pizzas, and burgers/sandwiches – yumness. Cheers!

Maui Mint Mai Tai – yields 2 drinks

  • 3 ounces light rum
  • 1 1/2 ounces dark rum
  • 1 -ounce Orange Curacao
  • 2 ounces fresh pineapple juice
  • 1 -ounce fresh orange juice
  • 1/2 -ounce fresh lime juice
  • dash grenadine
  • crushed ice
  • optional garnish with lime wedges, fresh fruit, edible flowers, and/or cherries

Fill a cocktail shaker half way with ice cubes. Add the remaining ingredients, and shake until cold and frothy, 30 to 45 seconds. Strain into 2 tall glasses with crushed ice. Garnish with optional ingredients.

Fizzy Vodka Pink Lemonade – yields 1 drink

  • 1 shot of vodka
  • 2 shots of club soda
  • 2 shots of pink lemonade
  • juice of half a lime
  • chopped mint
  • mint leaves and/or edible flowers for garnish

Fill a cocktail shaker half way with ice cubes. Add all of the ingredients, and shake until cold, 30 seconds. Strain into 1 glass with crushed ice. Garnish with mint leaves or edible flowers.
